Healthcare Assistance Program

In Chicago, over 6.2% of residents remain uninsured, and thousands more are underinsured, leaving them unable to afford essential medical and mental health care. These gaps in coverage disproportionately affect low-income families and communities of color, creating barriers to treatment and recovery. Nationwide, nearly 26 million Americans lack health insurance, and many delay or avoid care due to cost concerns.

Zakat Chicago is committed to closing these gaps. Through our healthcare partner clinics, we provide life-saving mental health and medical support at little or no cost to those who need it most. Our mission is rooted in compassion and equity—ensuring that no one is left behind because of financial hardship.

With an unwavering dedication to holistic well-being, our partner clinics have:

Delivered critical services to thousands, including counseling, therapy, and care packages.

Offered discounted or free check-ups and counseling sessions for Zakat-eligible patients.

Supported mental health first aid workshops, empowering community members to recognize and respond to crises.

Mental health struggles are on the rise, yet access remains limited. In Illinois, only 23% of mental health needs are met with the current workforce, and many neighborhoods lack affordable care options. Our initiative provides a sanctuary for those seeking comfort and recovery—through personalized therapy sessions, dynamic group programs, and community-driven support that fosters resilience and emotional stability.

Seeking help is an act of courage. Our clinics remind individuals that healing is possible and that they are not alone.

This work is deeply rooted in Islamic values of compassion, empathy, and care, emphasizing the importance of supporting one another during difficult times. By contributing to Zakat Chicago, you help transform lives and strengthen the fabric of our community.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ” مَنْ نَفهسَ عَنْ مُؤْمِنٍ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الدُّنْيَا، نَفهسَ ه اللَُّ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ” “Whoever relieves a believer’s distress in this world, Allah will relieve their distress on the Day of Resurrection.” (Sahih Muslim, 2699)
