Zakat Chicago’s Feast with Dignity campaign is one of our signature initiatives under the Food Aid Program, dedicated to combating food insecurity in our local communities. Every year, thousands of families face the difficult choice between putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their heads. These challenges intensify during the holiday season, especially for zakat-eligible individuals who work hourly jobs and often lose income during this time.
For many, organic halal poultry and meats are a rare luxury—only accessible through donations. To address this need, Zakat Chicago launched the Annual Turkey Distribution Drive in 2023. Through this campaign, we provide organic Zabihah Halal turkeys from Crescent Foods to families in need, ensuring they can celebrate with dignity. This effort has been warmly welcomed by both our distribution partners and the recipients. Each turkey weighs between 8- 12 pounds and over three years, we have distributed over 180,000 pounds of organic, Zabihah halal turkeys.
- 2025: Over 5,600 turkeys delivered to families
- 2024: Increased to 5,100 turkeys due to growing demand
- 2023: 3,600 organic Zabihah Halal turkeys distributed

The Quran beautifully highlights this duty in Surah Al-Insan (76:8-9):
وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًۭا وَيَتِيمًۭا وَأَسِيرًا ; إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءًۭ وَلَا شُكُورًا
‘And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [saying], “We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude
