Consistent with its mission of establishing Zakat as a living institution, Zakat Chicago provides additional services that other Zakat organizations do not. These include coordination between Zakat-collecting and Zakat-distributing organizations.
Zakat Chicago sponsors coordination of efforts amongst multiple organizations that serve the same area of need, such as various food pantries, refugee assistance programs, etc. The objectives of coordination are to provide opportunities of learning from each other and evolve new methods and promote the best practices.
Zakat Chicago has already brought about coordination between Food Aid providers via meetings and communications on a WhatsApp group. Multiple benefits have already been realized with such coordination. For example, when one food pantry expressed the need and interest in distributing winter kits, Zakat Chicago called a meeting to explore the interest among others. The result was that, in an amazingly short time, Zakat Chicago purchased the supplies to create almost 3,000 Winter Kits, which the food pantries and some Masajid distributed at the start of the winter, alhamdulillah.
